Mboya Wamumbe; Music Artist & The Talented Solo Guitarist Behind Most Kikuyu Music Hits
Instrumentalists are rarely recognized in the music industry yet they contribute a large part in the making of successful hit songs. This time, we focus on one highly talented solo guitarist hopping across one studio to another due to big demand of his guitar plucking skills. His name is Mboya Wamumbe, son to the legendry benga musician 'Joseph Wamumbe' from Gatanga. Mboya has been in the industry for several years now and is being regarded as one of the very best solo guitarists.
After the passing away of Lumumba who was considered the best solo guitarist by many top kikuyu musicians in early 2000s, a big gap was left especially in the kikuyu benga arena. Mboya Wamunbe later came in handy and actually even became the official guitarist for the likes of John Demathew both in recording and live perfomances. He has also played recording works for 'Kimani wa Turacco', Kuruga wa Wanjiku, Evans Demathew, Muigai wa Njoroge, Kinga Daniel, among many others.
His works not only thrive in secular music, but also in the gospel industry especially 'kigooco' tunes. Mboya's face features prominently in many kikuyu TV live music show performances, indeed securing himself a special place in the field.
Unknown to many people, Mboya wamumbe is a composer and a singer with his own recorded work. Last year, he sang a great benga song titled 'Kanyoni Kairu' which talks about investing your earnings wisely and not to be carried away by urban pleasures. Find it in his youtube channel here:
Why ''Kinga Daniel'' Could Soon Join The List Of Kikuyu Benga Music Stars
You might not have heard about him nor listened to his music works. Though not the famous kind, the man 'Kinga Daniel' is a big talent as far as kikuyu benga music is concerned. Gradually taking the shape of his mentor and former boss, the lateJohn Demathew, Kinga Daniel's songs are deeply authentic with mature content that addresses morality and the issues of day to day life. Little is known about him, but he hails from Ithanga in lower Gatanga region and was once an employee of the late legend John Demathew some years back.
''Demathew nurtured and mentored me in a great way. He would listen to my raw compositions which I dubbed on a cassette and get back to me with encouragement and advise. He was so fatherly to me'', Kinga Daniel said recently in an interview with a local media station.
He was at that time working in Demathew's first music store then located in 'Maina Clothing Building' at River road. Kinga would then leave to pursue other interests but still had the music seed growing in him. He has now resurfaced to get his dream come to life. When we visited his YOUTUBE CHANNEL, we were amazed to find earlier gospel music tracks dated about 3years ago which shows that he has been on the scene longer than we thought.
The latest three consecutive releases are clean benga secular works that display his prowess in composition with notable Demathew taste especially in the songs 'GAKENERO' and 'TUHE NGAI GIAKE'. His latest song is titled 'CIRINGI YAKWA' which talks about financial discipline. Below is a video containing a mix compilation of his top songs
